LGW’s Life is Still Smiling on You program was prepared for the elderly living in care homes, with the goal to improve the residents’ levels of cognitive development and function, enhance their self-esteem and make them feel able and an active part of society. On the other hand, by this program LGW identifies itself with the tough and heavy-laden job of health care employees, therefore aims to help the recreation of people working in this sector.
The ways LGW can provide support for care home residents and health care employees are the following.
For Residents
Based on the works of LGW’s 100 artists available in the LGW Art Treasury (www.lgwhitesite.com) LGW offers to provide special jigsaw puzzles, which will be prepared for the elderly only, supporting LGW’s ”Life is Still Smiling on You”
program proved to improve levels of cognitive development and function. Every unique picture is a new success enhancing the elderly’s self-esteem and making them feel able and an active part of society. The LGW jigsaw puzzles can be a part of Actitivites within care homes. LGW keeps in touch with the Activities Care Assistant of every home, providing them with new materials time to time.
LGW has also prepared a short film uncovering the hidden artistic treasures of Hungary. The aim of projecting the film within care homes is to provide even chances for the elderly who have a desire for beauty and harmony. The 30-minute-long art film (presenting 200 sculptures, ceramics, paintings, crafts and folk crafts) is a special experience for the people living in homes, sharing similar feelings.
As an effect of the film, certain changes could be noticed in the everyday life of elderly people in Hungary. Just to quote one opinion: „My son, I am 80, but this film enlivened me.” The same was strengthened during a survey as part of LGW’s work in a Northern Ireland care home (Rosemary Lodge, Antrim).
The goal of this part of the ”Life is Still Smiling on You” program is to give meaning to the lives of the residents on the long run, and that participation in the project will be a constant entertainment for them. They can feel they are important again, they can have a role in the field of beauty.
By this the residents’ behaviour can become more balanced and relaxed, making the job of the home’s staff easier, too. The psychical, mental, social burdens are shared, since they have an opportunity to let off steam and their desire to act – thus redundant energies do not fall into a conniption fit. Conversation about arts, creativity and beauty can become an important factor of residential life.
For Employees
LGW, identifying itself with the tough and heavy-laden job of health care employees, offers to help their recreation by undertaking to pay 10% of the total price of a Hungarian Vacation in 2008, drawing their attention especially to spas and recreational facilities. Please see the details of an LGW Vacation on our website.
